Richard qualified as a chartered accountant in 1999 and has a Diploma in Advanced Banking (cum laude). He has over 28 years’ experience in corporate and retail banking, consulting, facilitation and various entrepreneurial endeavours. Specific skills include financial management, financial performance enhancement, business turnarounds, credit and operational risk management, securitisation, entrepreneurship, business strategy and leadership.
Richard commenced his career at Deloitte and thereafter joined FNB Corporate, the corporate banking division of the then newly formed FirstRand Bank. He was appointed as Chief Financial Officer for the corporate banking division after 2 years with the group and held the role of CFO for a period of 5 years. Thereafter, he transferred to retail banking division to FNB Home Loans where he spent the next 6 years as Chief Operating Officer. During his time at FirstRand, Richard served on the group ALCO for 10 years as well as various Divisional Boards and Audit Committees.
Leaving the FirstRand group after 13 years, Richard then pursued a career as an entrepreneur, starting a financial management consulting company and taking strategic investments through turnaround opportunities in existing businesses.
Richard is currently the CEO of The Finance Team and is a director of Dallmayr South Africa and QPM Afrique. He also serves as Chairman of the board of SuperDrive Investments, Transec 3/4/5, Velocity Finance, Inkhota Investments & Fast Issuer.
